On Monday 24 November 2025, on the occasion of World AIDS Day 2025, the HIV Berodung service of the Luxembourg Red Cross announced it is organising a series of awareness, prevention and testing initiatives on Monday 1 December.
The organisation noted that the day will also serve as an opportunity to highlight the crucial importance of testing and psychological support for those affected and will feature a “Solidarity Evening” at the POST building in Luxembourg-Gare on the same evening.
In 2024, an estimated 40.8 million people were living with HIV worldwide, while 1.3 million new infections were recorded during the same year.
“Receiving an HIV-positive diagnosis remains a challenging event in a person’s life,” emphasised Laurence Mortier, Director of the HIV Berodung service at the Luxembourg Red Cross. “This diagnosis, similar to a grieving process, involves several stages to fully accept living with HIV and cannot be trivialised. That is why we provide free, personalised psychological support through a network of specialised psychologists. Their mission is to support individuals from the moment of diagnosis and throughout their journey.”
Laurence Mortier also stressed the importance of testing: “It is the only way to access treatment, whether for HIV or other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Today, living with HIV is no longer a fatality thanks to effective treatments. People should not be afraid to get tested if they believe they have been at risk.”
