On Wednesday 11 December 2024, the 2022-2024 winners of Luxembourg's Clinical Research Programme were announced at a ceremony held at the premises of the Health Directorate in Luxembourg-Hamm.
Luxembourg's Minister of Health and Social Security, Martine Deprez, and representatives of the Health Directorate, presented the awards.
The Minister stated: "We are proud to support clinical research and generally promote scientific research in the field of health. These clinical studies are of real interest for the daily work of doctors and are intended to offer patients in Luxembourg cutting-edge medicine."
The winners presented the first advances in their projects in two different categories, for which they received a grant from the Ministry of Health and Social Security.
The winners in the In the "Doctor-Researcher" category were:
- Dr Becker (CHL): Hypercholesterinämie EARLIE, CHARM, EASFH Register;
Pubertät, Minimal invasive sampling during Minipuberty, Pub25;
- Dr Carvalho Pereira (Rehazenter): spastiCRYO (study on the efficacy of selected peripheral nerves cryoneurolysis to treat the functional problems, disability burden and pain caused by spasticity due to central nervous system pathology);
- Dr Batista da Costa (Hôpitaux Robert Schuman - HRS): Molecular Profiling of Bladder and Prostate Cancer (MP-BPC): prospective cohort using tissue, blood and urinary samples in Luxembourg;
- Dr Gómez Bravo (Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital Centre -CHNP): FASTCOV: Assessment of fasting induced changes in clinical and psychological semiology in Long-Covid and correlation with laboratory findings;
- Dr Jouret (HRS): Post radical prostatectomy administration of Lu-PSMA in high risk of prostate cancer recurrence: an early phase 2 prospective trial.
The winners in the "Clinical Research Project" category were:
- Professor Vogin (Centre François Baclesse): APRILUX - Pre-therapeutic analysis of the individual radiosensitivity of cancer patients in Luxembourg;
- Dr Stammet (CHL): Sedation, Temperature and Pressure after Cardiac Arrest and Resuscitation: A Factorial Randomized Trial with Three Interventions - The STEPCARE trial.
The 2024 winners in the "Clinical Research Project" category were:
- Dr Berna (HRS): Precision Oncology Pipeline to improve Treatment in Pancreatic Cancer Patients in Luxembourg;
- Dr Seil (CHL): KNEECAP - Knee joint preservation and osteoarthritis clinical pathway;
- Dr Prado (CHL): EPINK-LIVER - Epidemiology of Metabolic Dysfunction-associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD), Metabolic Dysfunction-associated Steatohepatitis (MASH), Met-ALD and assessment of epigenetic and functional changes in hepatic lymphocyte populations in patients undergoing bariatric surgery.
