On Wednesday 20 April 2022, following the recommendation of the Superior Council of Infectious Diseases (Conseil supérieur des maladies infectieuses - CSMI) and in agreement with the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), Luxembourg's Ministry of State and the Ministry of Health announced that a fourth dose of a COVID-19 vaccine may be administered to people aged 80 and over.

The fourth dose is to be given at an interval of at least four months after the booster dose and the vaccine product used for the fourth dose is to be an mRNA vaccine. This additional booster dose aims to maintain a high level of vaccine protection that these people have acquired against infection, severe forms of the disease and death.

The Ministries recalled that any immunocompromised person (organ transplant or haematopoietic cell transplantation, patients undergoing lymphopenic chemotherapy or immunosuppressive treatments or carriers of a primary immunodeficiency disease) or on dialysis, aged eighteen and over, can obtain a fourth vaccine dose. This must be done at least three months after the last booster dose.

The people concerned will receive an invitation from the Luxembourg Government by post to get vaccinated, with a detailed indication of the procedure for making an appointment at the Victor Hugo vaccination centre, with their doctor or in a pharmacy.

The list of doctors and pharmacies taking part in the vaccination campaign is available online at: https://impfen.lu/.

Personalised assistance is also offered through the hotline set up for this purpose via tel.: 247-65533.
