On Thursday 29 October 2026, the Health Directorate of Luxembourg's Ministry of Health and Social Security published its weekly overview of the evolution of major acute respiratory infections, including COVID-19, influenza (flu) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), for the week of Monday 19 to Sunday 25 October 2026 (week 43).
COVID-19 / SARS-CoV-2 cases continue to decrease
During week 43, the number of positive COVID-19 cases decreased from 122 to 91, representing a 25% decrease compared to the previous week.
The viral concentration detected in wastewater also decreased.
The latest available sequencing data reveals that the XFG variant (49.4%) and the RW.1 variant (20.8%) are predominant.
Flu cases remain at a low level
During week 43, the number of flu cases reported by laboratories increased from 32 to 36 compared to the previous week. The number of cases therefore remains broadly stable and at a level comparable to that recorded during the same period in previous years.
During the last week, influenza A accounted for 94% of typed cases, while influenza B represented 6%.
Low level of RSV cases
The number of RSV cases reported by laboratories remained low, with two cases reported during week 43, compared to five the previous week.
