As Fondation Cancer celebrates the success of its most recent Relais pour la Vie and prepares for the 4th Rock against Cancer concert, it has also provided an overview of its 2015 actions, revealing that the foundation donated €2.16 million last year to its tri-fold 'Information-Help-Research' missions.
In its latest annual report, Fondation Cancer provided details on the various publications it had produced as part of its information and prevention campaign, information on psychosocial services to help patients and background on the cancer research projects it supported in 2015.
The foundation's missions are based on prevention through information, assistance to cancer patients and their families, as well as research. To this end, the foundation invested €786,278 in the field of research last year as a primary goal to continue to improve the treatment of cancer patients in Luxembourg.
"Research is essential for progress in the treatment of different forms of cancer," explained Fondation Cancer president, Dr. Carlo Bock. "The Fondation supports research projects focused on the origin of cancer, its treatment and prevention to reduce the incidence of cancer and increase the chances of recovery and survival of patients."
€565,316 was allocated to the 'Information' mission, which Dr. Bock described as a necessary tool in "sensitising the public to cancer risk factors", whilst providing support to cancer patients received the financial benefit of €803,572.
"The Fondation offers a wide range of services to patients with cancer in order to support and improve their quality of life, whether in the form of advice, psychological support, financial aid of patient groups. These services also target the families, children and friends of cancer patients," commented Dr. Bock.
The Fondation Cancer has now been working in the fight against cancer for over twenty years.
