Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden travelled to Singapore on Monday 7 September 2026 for a two-day visit to the sovereign island city-state in Southeast Asia, marking an important step in deepening bilateral relations between the two countries.
During the visit, the Luxembourg Prime Minister held talks with his Singaporean counterpart, Lawrence Wong, followed by a courtesy visit to the President of the Republic of Singapore.
Prime Minister Frieden also took part in the Singapore Lecture Series and delivered a speech which called for a more sovereign Europe focused on defence, energy and artificial intelligence (AI).
According to Luxembourg’s Ministry of State, the visit also provided an opportunity to jointly analyse current geopolitical challenges, strengthening the willingness of two countries determined to play an active role in a complex international environment to cooperate. During his bilateral meetings, Prime Minister Frieden reaffirmed the importance of having strong alliances and cooperating with partners. The leaders also agreed to strengthen collaboration in the financial, space and data sectors in the coming months.
The ministry noted that the meetings also demonstrated that Singapore has a particular interest in Luxembourg’s efforts in the space sector, and in this context, the Luxembourg Prime Minister inaugurated SES’s new Asia-Pacific regional headquarters. Prime Minister Frieden also participated in several discussions dedicated to strengthening economic ties between the two countries, including a round table co-organised by The Economist and the Singapore Business Federation.
Moreover, Prime Minister Frieden attended a presentation on Singapore’s housing policy, a subject the ministry highlighted was of particular interest to Luxembourg.
