His Royal Highness the Grand Duke visited the Military Center in Diekirch today, together with Defence Minister Étienne Schneider, for a tour of the logistics hall and its workshops.
During the visit, the Grand Duke also received explanations on the army's satellite capabilities and witnessed a drone demonstration. Étienne Schneider also brought HRH the Grand Duke up to date on the development of Luxembourg’s defence policy for 2025 and beyond.
The logistics hall, inaugurated on 22 July 2015, forms an independent safe enclosure with a facilitated link to the military barracks. The satellite communications anchor station, inaugurated on September 29 2015, is part of the Wideband Global Satellite System (WGS), the US defence's most successful satellite communications system. The station at Haerebierg facilitates the logistical and administrative management, data transfer and communications of military detachments in operation.
