On Sunday 26 July 2026, the New Delhi restaurant in Luxembourg-Gasperich celebrated its 20th anniversary.

Around 350 people attended the event held at the nearby Stade Emile Bintner throughout the afternoon, with Indian finger-food (samosas, pakoras, etc.) as well as chicken and vegetable biryani rice dishes on offer, plus thuringers and frites available from the grill, with crémant, wine and soft drink stalls offering a selection of drinks.

Gazebos were laid out, with tressel tables and benches as well as cocktail tables allowing everyone the option of sitting or standing. With many guests bringing children along, the astroturf football pitch with goals proved to be a hit with the younger generation.

The restaurant's owner, Sati Ramesh Chander (Raju to those who know him well), arrived in Luxembourg in 1993, and initially worked in Indian and Italian restaurants in Luxembourg to gain experience. 

He opened the New Delhi restaurant with July 2006 with 36 covers, serving a menu of predominantly north Indian cuisine, by a menu of grill, korma and masala dishes adapted for the Luxembourg clientele's palates - this includes both spicy and non-spicy dishes, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian.

Once the restaurant had established itself (it is still cometimes difficult to get a table, such is the demand for reservations), he resisted the temptation to expand into new and larger premises. Instead, he opened a second location in Bonnevoie in 2016, offering a takeaway service.

The pandemic was a challenging time for many; during this time, the restaurant offered takeaway services and also adopted table separators, as did many others, ensuring they could remain open where possible, as well as providing their regular clientele with meals during this challenging period.

He is very much involved with the Indian diaspora in Luxembourg, including both the Indian Association Luxembourg (IAL) and the Indian Business Chamber Luxembourg (IBCL), as well as the Optimists Cricket Club (OCC), and regularly supports various community events.

Speaking with Chronicle.lu, Raju explained that he was thanking his loyal clientele for their support over the past 20 years. He acknowledged that it is hard work and explained that he is looking forward to the future and, while he has many more years ahead, he hopes that the restaurant will stay within the family
