The City of Luxembourg (Ville de Luxembourg - VdL) has announced the return of its annual "Kanner in the City"children's summer event, which will take place across the capital on Friday 31 July and Saturday 1 August 2026.
The CAPEL educational and leisure activities centre of the VdL childcare department (Service Foyers scolaires) is organising the event as part of the "Aktioun Bambësch" children's activities and leisure programme, which was created in 1973.
This year's edition is themed "Eng Rees duerch d'Kannerbicher" ("A Journey Through Children's Books") and will feature water games, workshops inspired by children's books, fun challenges and other activities. Children aged four to nine, together with their parents, are invited to take part in games and workshops led by "Aktioun Bambësch"facilitators and professional Spielmobile (mobile toy libraries) from various European countries.
The VdL noted that it organises recreational activities for children and families throughout the year, including "Kanner in the City", "Kannerparade" and "Spillfest op der Kinnekswiss". These events form part of CAPEL's play-based educational approach, encouraging both adults and children to participate in activities that promote culture, creativity and spontaneity.
On Friday 31 July 2026, from 14:30 to 17:30, activities will take place at Place d'Armes, Place Guillaume II, Square Jan Palach, Place des Capucins and Place du Puits-Rouge. On Saturday 1 August 2026, from 14:30 to 18:30, the event will continue at Place d'Armes, Place Guillaume II and Square Jan Palach.
Participation is free of charge.
The VdL also noted that the Stater Maart will exceptionally close at 13:00 on Saturday 1 August due to preparations for the event.
