On Friday 19 June 2026, Stëmm vun der Strooss, the Luxembourg-based non-profit organisation supporting people experiencing homelessness and vulnerable members of society, announced that in response to the current high temperatures it will provide water fountains and jugs free of charge in its social restaurants in Luxembourg-Hollerich, Esch-sur-Alzette and Ettelbruck.

The organisation said: “The entire population is exposed to the scorching temperatures currently setting in. However, for people living on the streets, the heat is often even more dangerous, as they have no shelter to protect themselves and face greater difficulties accessing drinking water and showers.”

According to Stëmm vun der Strooss Director, Alexandra Oxacelay, vigilance is crucial: "In winter, the homeless risk hypothermia. In summer, heatstroke can prove fatal."

The charity has also announced the terraces at its facilities have also been equipped with large umbrellas so that clients can eat in a pleasant, shaded atmosphere while remaining protected from sunburn caused by solar rays. At "Saxo," located at 24 rue de Hollerich in Luxembourg-Gare, social workers will also emphasise the importance of regular hydration.

Stëmm vun der Strooss emphasised that just like the clients, the 250 individuals employed through community service programs (travail d’utilité collective) must also be protected from the heatwave. Consequently, cold meals are being prepared in its various kitchens located in Sanem, Schoenfels, Hollerich, Ettelbruck, and Esch-sur-Alzette, and working hours have been adjusted accordingly.
