The Luxembourg Ministry for Equal Opportunities has launched a multilingual, all-inclusive element to its awareness campaign “Domestic violence hurts the whole family”.
As part of its domestic violence awareness and prevention campaign, the Ministry for Equal Opportunities aims to draw attention to the effects of domestic violence on victims, perpetrators and other family members.
Likewise, the campaign targets the different non-Luxembourgish communities in the Grand Duchy. As such, the ministry has worked in collaboration with national partner associations and those from abroad so as to initiate projects in several languages so everyone can better understand the problem of domestic violence in Luxembourg.
The attempts to present this campaign to various communities is due to the fact that victims of domestic violence come from 42 different countries and the perpetrators come from 46.
The campaign was originally introduced in 2013 to spread awareness of the consequences of domestic violence on both victims and perpetrators, as well as those around them, especially particular children. It aims to show how domestic violence affects many homes and families in Luxembourg, crossing all age groups, nationalities and social classes.
Information brochures are available in English, French, Russian, Serbian-Croatian, Portuguese, Arabic and Luxembourgish.
The campaign also encompasses an interactive element in the form of theatre entitled “Stories-Theatre-Debate”, which aims to prevent domestic violence and spread awareness of the issue, especially aimed at the local Portuguese-speaking community, for whom it has been adapted.
The Ministry for Equal Opportunities’ attempts, in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice, form part of an international fight against domestic violence.
