On Tuesday 13 May 2025, Luxembourg's Minister of Justice, Elisabeth Margue, and her French counterpart, Gérald Darmanin, signed a political declaration on the fight against organised crime in general and drug trafficking in particular.

As reported by Luxembourg's Ministry of Justice and the judicial authorities, this agreement commits the two countries to continuing the political dialogue on the fight against organised crime to ensure that efforts on both sides of the border remain coordinated and effective.

The Luxembourgish and French Ministers of Justice also attended the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding on cross-border cooperation between Luxembourg's State Prosecutor General, John Petry, and, on the French side, the Prosecutors General of the Court of Appeal of Metz, François Perain, and of Nancy, Hugues Berbain.

According to the authorities, this memorandum of understanding provides for the strengthening of cross-border cooperation and aims to improve the exchange of information on cross-border crime, particularly in the area of drug trafficking, by creating a coordination office. The objective of this office is to enable joint identification of cross-border criminal phenomena and to define shared priorities and action strategies, while respecting the responsibilities and areas of action of each party. The coordination office will be complemented by an operational liaison office, headed by the public prosecutors involved in the issues addressed.

The authorities added that this strengthening of cross-border cooperation, both at the political level and among judicial authorities, also constitutes an important pillar of the efforts deployed within the framework of "Drogendësch 2.0" drug deterrance action plan in Luxembourg.
