Luxembourg's Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade has reported that the European Parliament recently launched a selection competition for Luxembourg nationals.
As reported in a press release issued on Friday 3 May 2024, the European Parliament is the first European institution to embark on the path of general recruitment competitions based on nationality for the most under-represented states among its staff. After the Netherlands and Austria, a selection competition intended for Luxembourg nationals was launched on Monday 15 April 2024.
The ministry reported that the Luxembourg Government "welcomes" this initiative undertaken by the European Parliament "aimed at correcting the geographical imbalance and the under-representation of Luxembourg nationals among its civil servants". The ministry added: "As the host country of many European institutions, including the headquarters of the Secretariat of the European Parliament, Luxembourg invites all interested parties to apply and help shape the future of Europe!"
The competition aims to establish a reserve list from which the European Parliament Secretariat can recruit candidates to work in its three workplaces: Luxembourg, Brussels (BE) and Strasbourg (FR).
To be eligible to apply, candidates must meet the following conditions:
- be a national of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg;
- have completed university studies of a minimum duration of three years, attested by a diploma officially recognised in an EU Member State;
- have relevant professional experience of a minimum duration of two years acquired after their university studies;
- have in-depth knowledge (level C1) of French or German (language 1);
- have satisfactory knowledge (level B2) of another official EU language (language 2).
Applications are open until Friday 24 May 2024 at 12:00 (noon). Further information is available on the European Parliament website: https://apply4ep.gestmax.eu/.
