Luxembourg's Ministry of the Economy has announced the appointment of André Hansen as Government Commissioner for Maritime Affairs.

At its meeting of 15 December 2021, the Government Council approved, on the proposal of the Minister of the Economy, Franz Fayot, the appointment of André Hansen to the post of Government Commissioner for Maritime Affairs, with effect from 1 May 2022.

André Hansen will replace Robert Biwer who will retire on 30 April 2022. Until then, there will be a gradual transition phase between the current and future Government Commissioner for Maritime Affairs.

An advisor to the Economy Ministry, André Hansen is currently Deputy Head of the General Directorate for the Promotion of Foreign Trade and Investments, a post he will leave definitively in April 2022. He will continue to carry out his role as Commissioner General of the Luxembourg pavilion of the Universal Exhibition in Osaka in 2025 in parallel with his future function as Commissioner for Maritime Affairs.

Placed under the authority of the Minister of the Economy, the Luxembourg Maritime Administration (Commissariat aux affaires maritimes - CAM) acts as a service provider and a supervisory authority for the maritime sector. In charge of the management of the Luxembourg public shipping register, the CAM deals in particular with the registration procedures, the inspection and certification of vessels, the management of crews, shipping companies and approved managers as well as management of the recreational craft register.
