On Wednesday, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel opened the two-day Luxembourg 5G Conference 2019, being held at the European Convention Center Luxembourg in Kirchberg.
Organised for the second year by SMC and Digital Luxembourg, this participatory conference brings together participants from the business world and civil society to discuss and learn about the introduction of 5G in Europe, America and Asia. Presentations and workshops address the opportunities as well as the challenges posed by 5G, for instance its potential environmental impact.
Tango and Telindus were among the first day's speakers. Under the umbrella of Proximus, Tango and Telindus have been the first Luxembourg operators (since April 2019) to have connected the 5G on their mobile network, with a core 5G network operational for deployments on the horizon. Since the first test conducted in April, the operator is awaiting authorisation and the allocation of frequencies to begin deployment, the goal being to launch 5G for its customers within twelve months.
Gérard Hoffmann, CEO of Proximus Luxembourg, commented: "Building on the imminent deployment of 5G, as well as on the quality of our 4G network, we are pursuing our goal to better connect and digitize Luxembourg by offering high-performance solutions that add real value to our BtoB and BtoC customers. We are more than proud to be able to contribute to the development of the country's competitiveness".
