Following their initial criticism announced on 1 March concerning the proposed reform to Family Allowances in Luxembourg, the LCGB trade union has now called for a meeting with the Minister for Family and Integration, Corinne Cahen, calling for further changes.
This time round the union has claimed that, amongst other issues, the government's family policy is incoherent and has no overall concept. They note that the reform shows an unscrupulous inequality between current and former families. The main issue here concerns a change in family status; the proposed changes recommend a scale according to the number of children per family, whereas the current system covers for a specific amount per child.
The union has stressed that current families are at risk due to this since a change in a families make up can radically alter their monetary situation. The LCGB and Conseil d’Etat both agree here that such a situation would lead to a family suffering due to the rules of the School Allowance.
The LCGB wants the government to heed the complaints that have been laid at its door and conduct a series of amendments to the current bill that will improve it as well as making it consistent.
