"Inspired by true events", this drama follows Leslie Rowlands (Andrea Riseborough), a West Texas single mother who won the lottery and squandered it all, on drink and drugs.
She has lost everything, including family and friends. Now desperate, she tries to reconnect with James (Owen Teague), her 20-year-old son from whom she has been estranged. He tries to help his mother, but within limits. When she succumbs to her habits, he has had enough and she is on her own again. Even her father Raymond (Tom Virtue) has had enough.
She accepts help from Motel Manager (Pramode Kumar) who feels sorry for her and offers her a job as a cleaner. Could this be the first step on a long road back? Or will she succumb to her dependencies again? She is offered help from all sides; however, ultimately, the only one that can help her to rebuild her life is herself.
A raw drama illustrating how difficult it can be to come back from alcohol and drug dependencies. Andrea Riseborough delivers a superb performance, enough to earn her an Oscar nomination.
