On Wednesday, the 6th annual British & Irish Film Season returned to the Cinémathèque in Luxembourg's Place du Theatre to see the screening of Mark Noonan's You're Ugly too.
A receptive audience watched the film which told the story of Will (Aidan Gillen), who has just been released from prison, and Stacey, his neice who has been in foster care as both her parents had died. The poignant, yet humorous, drama charts the building of their relationship as he must clock in with his probation officer every evening and she must get an education. They stay at a caravan park and meet some of their neighbours...
Director- Writer Mark Noonan participatd in a post-screening Q&A session via Skype and explained how how got the idea and started writing a script, as well as casting Aidan Gillen and Lauren Kinsella in the lead roles. With wind turbines in the back of shots at the playground and other scenese, he explained that filming was done in Dublin and in the Midlands. As Aidan Gillen's time availability had been limited, they shot the film in just three weeks last October, when the weather was quite cold and wet.
Thursday, the penultimate day in this year's film season, will see Sonita Gale, producer of her documentary film about Andrew Carnegie, attend the 19:30 screening and participate in a post-screening Q&A session, before the 21:30 screening of 45 Years at 21:30, both at ciné Utopia in Limpertsberg.
