The British and Irish Film Festival Luxembourg (BIFFL) has teamed up with Kinepolis Luxembourg to screen the best newly-released films from Britain and Ireland; the first of these is the spy drama "Operation Mincemeat", for which we are screening an avant-première on Friday 22 April 2022 at Ciné Utopia at 19:30.

The "BIFFL Presents" initiative will be held once a quarter, on average, and will feature avant-premières of films from Britain and Ireland that may be about to go on general release in Luxembourg and cannot be included in the programming of the annual BIFFL festival each September. Screenings will be at Ciné Utopia in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg.

Synopsis: Based on a true story: during WWII, two intelligence officers use a corpse and false papers to outwit German troops. In the context of WWII narratives, the story of Operation Mincemeat is unique, a bizarre and seductive cinematic blend of high-level espionage and ingenious fiction, where the stakes could hardly be higher. Michelle Ashford's script fuses multiple strands and moods: tense, romantic, thrilling, unexpectedly funny and endlessly surprising. It tells a richly human story of the soldiers we seldom see, who fight a different kind of war in shadows and deception, haunted by the knowledge that certainty and guarantee of success are nowhere to be found.
