With the end-of-year festivities getting underway, Chronicle.lu is compiling a series of articles exploring some of the Christmas markets taking place across the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

While major events such as the markets in Luxembourg City and Esch-sur-Alzette run for several weeks, many smaller yet equally charming local markets open for just one day or a single weekend.

Next up is the "Chrëschtmaart" (Christmas market) in Clervaux, held on the Place du Marché situated below Clervaux castle on Sunday 7 December 2025. The event ran from 11:00 until 20:00 and entry was free. The organisers provided a P&R shuttle bus to transport visitors to and from parking facilities at Clervaux train station and the local community hall (Hall Polyvalent).

Around 35 exhibitors from the region were present throughout the day, selling a range of Christmas wares, including wooden carvings, artworks, jewellery, knitwear, candles and confection. Various stalls also offered a selection of festive food and drink, including mulled wine, grilled meats, crêpes and waffles, alongside more traditional Luxembourgish dishes such as kniddelen and gromperekichelcher. Organisers set up wooden fire drums throughout the market area, helping to create a smoky and festive atmosphere.

The market was organised in collaboration with various local associations and artisans, including the APEMH Foundation (Association of Parents of Mentally Handicapped Children) and the local football club FC Claravallis Clervaux.

Throughout the day, various forms of entertainment kept revellers in the festive spirit and featured music from the Dixie Boys Band, stilt-walking acrobats and the musical troupe Harmonie Municipale Clervaux, whose members performed dressed in Santa Claus-style outfits.

Despite being a smaller and more intimate setup than many of Luxembourg’s major urban Christmas markets, the Chrëschtmaart benefited from its community atmosphere, wide range of food and refreshment options and its warm, cosy and authentic local character.
