The sixth edition of the Lux African Festival took place at the Tramsschapp cultural centre in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 June 2025.

The free event showcased Afro-Caribbean creativity and cultures in Luxembourg.

Speaking with Chronicle.lu at the event, Lynsay Mabe, founder and Vice-President of Luxembourg-based non-profit organisation LIKABA, said the organisers were "very proud" of the festival, now in its sixth edition. She noted that the aim of LIKABA, created in 2013, is "to promote Afro-Caribbean cultures. So this festival is really the best illustration of our purpose."

The festival featured a food court representing different regions of the African and Caribbean world, as well as 40 stalls selling decorations, accessories, jewellery and other items - "everything that can promote our cultures".

Entertainment included an Afro Dance show, a fashion show and a concert by a Caribbean band on Saturday and children's painting and a live band (drums of Burundi) performance on Sunday.

Lynsay Mabe described the festival as "very multicultural" and welcoming: "We promote African [and Caribbean] culture, but as you can see, it's a festival that welcomes everybody [...] and we are very proud of it. We showcase our cultures and invite people to discover or rediscover [them]".

She said the annual event had received positive feedback over the years. The first edition, held near the city centre, attracted about 500 people, while last year's fifth edition counted about 4,000 people over the weekend. The organisers expected a similar number of attendees this year, with an estimated 1,500 people having attended on Saturday alone.

This year marked the first time the festival took place in summer. "We used to do it in October, but for logistic and venue constraints, we decided to do [it] in June," explained Lynsay Mabe. "So we hope that it will be a smart move". She added that, depending on feedback, the organisers will decide whether to keep the yearly event in summer or move it back to October.
