Neumünster Abbey (neimënster) has announced that it is organising a new edition of its “Bock op...” festival in Luxembourg this summer.

After a somewhat particular 2020 edition disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the summer programme of the Bock op... 2021 festival marks a gradual return to normal.

This new edition offers even more outdoor concerts on the forecourt of neimënster, as well as exhibitions and meetings with artists in residence, in strict compliance with the sanitary measures in force. Shows and activities are also aimed at attracting a large family audience.

Highlights include a surprise open-air event on 26 June 2021 from 18:30, before a meeting with "Le Dernier Ogre" (the last ogre), as well as "Pause" concerts every Sunday, "Forward" concerts by young artists in full swing and the carte blanches of Charlotte in Red, De Läbbel, Foqus and Travel on the Beat, not to mention the very first Luxembourg edition of the Big Bang music festival for a young audience on 3 and 4 July 2021.

Associate artists

As part of the Neistart state aid, neimënster is welcoming four additional associate artists, who will join the dancer and choreographer Anne-Mareike Hess. The Neistart grants allow artists to explore different artistic practices and continue their research work while granting them carte blanche to carry out artistic projects that may lead to their production and dissemination.

The new associate artists are:

  • Álvaro Marzán, an artist of Spanish origin whose work examines the richness of the heritage, the spiritual and symbolic force that a place conveys and the dialogue that can be created with a work of visual art and painting. His residency will be spread over two periods (two months in 2021 and four more months in 2022);
  • rapper Nicool and director Dan Tanson, who are joining forces in the first stage of a Luxembourg project aimed at synergising the talents of professionals from the young audience and rap scene. Scenic research, staging and the first rehearsals will take place at the end of 2021;
  • Pol Belardi, a young Luxembourg composer and multi-instrumentalist, who will work on a new multi-faceted project that will allow him to look back on 25 years of musical learning to build his first solo on stage before transforming it into a composition for a large ensemble. The second phase will be an opportunity to increase meetings and collaborations, whilst the final phase of this residency will involve welcoming around 20 musicians who will take to the open-air stage of the Bock op festival in 2022 to bring the work accomplished during the residency to life.

These associate artists will lead various events throughout the festival.
