On Monday 12 January 2026, natur&ëmwelt, the Foundation Hëllef fir d’Natur and the Wildlife care centre held their annual New Year's reception at the House of Nature in Kockelscheuer.
Around 80 people attended the event organised by three organisations dedicated to preserving biodiversity, landscapes and natural resources, and to raising public awareness of environmental issues.
At a time when climate and species protection are unfortunately becoming less of a societal priority, the New Year's reception provided an opportunity to emphasise the importance of these issues in maintaining a healthy natural environment and ensuring a sustainable future for Luxembourg.
Roby Biwer, President of natur&ëmwelt, was the first to speak (all speeches in Luxembourgish): he welcomed everyone including representatives of various organisations that support the association in its activities. He presented an overview of where its €80 financing budget went during the past year, referencing projects in nature, climate and biodiversity, emphasising that everyone needs nature. He also talked about the importance of communicating about nature to inform the public, including young people. He then mentioned urban projects in which the association was involved, illustrating that their work is not confined to rural areas. With Luxembourg’s population continuing to grow, this is putting increased pressure on nature throughout the Grand Duchy.
Patrick Losch, President of the Foundation Hëllef fir d’Natur, recalled the visit of Grand Duke Henri to the House of Nature. He also singled out the contribution of the Oeuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte.
Maurice Bauer, Deputy Mayor of Luxembourg City, said that the city tries to support the organisations’ work as much as possible, with an emphasis in biodiversity projects. He also referenced LUGA, the Luxembourg Urban Garden exhibition which attracted many visitors to the capital city between May and October 2025. He concluded by promoting collaboration and working together.
Serge Wilmes, Luxembourg's Minister for the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity, was the last to speak and talked about the nature projects in Contern and Sandweiler. He thanked all the actors present for their contributions towards biodiversity and sustainability. He also praised all organisations and institutions for working together on different projects.
The event continued with a networking cocktail.
