On Sunday 28 September 2025, during the open day of the Intermunicipal Ecological Syndicate (SIVEC), Luxembourg’s Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity officially launched the new digital reuse platform “Gutt Saach” (“Good Thing”).

In a press release, the ministry said this initiative aims to facilitate and promote the exchange of second-hand materials among Luxembourgish associations, particularly those collected at SIVEC’s resource centre. Designed for charitable and humanitarian associations, schools, after-school care centres, municipal workshops and any other non-profit organisation established in Luxembourg, the platform provides a practical solution to extend the life of objects and optimise the use of these resources.

The ministry noted that every year, significant quantities of fully functional equipment are discarded, even though they could easily be reused or made available to other organisations. Observing the lack of an effective link between needs and resources, SIVEC has actively engaged in this field. The “Gutt Saach” project, which originally consisted of a digital communication platform redistributing between 80 and 100 tonnes of materials annually, has now been transformed into a fully accessible, solidarity-based digital platform, underpinned by an ambitious vision for reuse.

Partially funded by the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity, the initiative forms an integral part of the national strategy to promote a circular economy.

Minister for the Environment, Climate and Biodiversity, Serge Wilmes, emphasised: “The transition to more sustainable consumption patterns is a key lever for achieving our environmental objectives. The ‘Gutt Saach’ platform demonstrates how a simple digital tool can invigorate the reuse market, with a positive impact not only on the environment but also on Luxembourg’s associative, educational and municipal sectors. We hope that SIVEC’s project will inspire actors across the country to join the circular economy and reuse movement.”
