On the evening of Tuesday 24 June 2025, a small group of people met in Luxembourg-Ville (city centre) for a sunny walking trail in the capital to explore biodiversity in the urban environment.

The City of Luxembourg (VdL) regularly organises the "Beien an der Stad" (Bees in the City) tour in order to raise awareness of the protection of bees and the preservation of biodiversity. Guided tours are organised from May to September in various languages; visitors may also explore the trail independently.

The educational bee walking trail starts in Place Guillaume II (Knuedler) in Luxembourg-Ville. The trail is about 2.5 km long and goes through the city, along the Alzrette River and around the Grund district.

During the tour, participants learn how important bees are to nature and our everyday lives. The trail has a number of information points along the way with colourful signs featuring pictures and facts about bees, flowers and the environment. On the tour on Tuesday, there were also two guides who spoke about the various species of wild bees, wasps and honeybees - they shared that there are around 350 types of bees in Luxembourg alone.

The guides explained the lifestyle of the bees, how some live alone, while others live in large groups inside hives, how each of them has a job like collecting nectar or cleaning the hive, how they reproduce, how they find their way around and the products they make, such as honey. They noted that bees are very organised and smart animals which they help keep nature in balance.

Among the participants on Tuesday's tour were representatives of Chronicle.lu.
