The Luxembourg Environment Agency and the Customs and Excise Administration have announced that cross-border waste transport checks were carried out as part of “Operation Demeter IX” between 15 July and mid-September.

A total of 829 vehicles were inspected, with 80 found to have non-conformities such as incomplete or missing documentation or permits. These violations resulted in 123 warnings and fines totalling €22,700.

The checks aim to ensure compliance with European regulations, which are designed to prevent illegal waste transport, promote the safe management of hazardous waste, and optimise waste treatment processes. Inspectors carefully examined both the required documentation and the nature of the waste being transported to ensure proper adherence to these rules.

This operation underscores the importance of correct documentation and permits for all businesses involved in waste transport, whether small craft enterprises or large transport companies. By enforcing these regulations, authorities aim to protect the environment and ensure the responsible handling of waste.
