The ratification of the Paris Agreement and the EU emissions trading scheme (EU ETS) reform will be carried out during the the Environment Council meeting taking place in Luxembourg next Monday.
Commissioner Miguel Arias Cañete will present the EU's proposal for the ratification of the Paris Agreement to the Council. The adoption of the decision will be taken after the European Parliament has given its approval.
The Council will also hold a policy debate on the structural reform proposal for the emissions trading scheme (ETS) exchange system and developments in the National Emission Ceilings (NEC) directive on air quality.
The ministers will further discuss the conclusions on the action plan for the fight against wildlife trafficking. They will adopt conclusions on the Action Plan presented by the Commission in February to stem the trafficking of wild species of fauna and flora.
At the request of France, the Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis will present the ministers with the two legislative proposals of the European Commission on the scientific criteria for determining endocrine disruptors with a view to regulating them.
The Council will finally be informed of the outcome of the debate during the "Transport" Council on the Volkswagen scandal, known Diesel Gate.
