The Ministry of National Education, Children and Youth has opened a new youth programme which allows young people in Luxembourg and the Greater Region to participate in ecological voluntary service.

The service comprises an education and orientation year, during which young people aged 18-25 are able to collect environmental experience in the field within one of the four project partner regions of Lorraine, Luxembourg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Wallonia.

Participation in the project requires a minimum nine months dedication, and can last up to one year. During this time, volunteers will spend 30-35 hours a week engaged in a particular project. The programme seeks young people who are motivated to voluntarily donate their time and energy to the service of a non-profit organisation.

Volunteers will also get the chance to participate in themed seminars in the Greater Region where they will be able to meet other people carrying out voluntary work, as well as receive the opportunity to learn or improve one of the languages of the Greater Region, dependent on the location they choose as their destination.

Candidacy can be submitted to the respective host organisation up until 1 October 2015. Voluntary activities should start at the very latest on 1 November 2015. Interested Luxembourg-based organisations in the environmental sector can contact the Service National de la Jeunesse to find out about collaborating with adolescents from a neighbouring region for 2016/2017.
