On Tuesday 8 July 2025, the City of Luxembourg (VdL) inaugurated the new Makerspace, an innovative digital space designed for children attending primary schools in Luxembourg City.
Located at the Technolink Centre in Luxembourg-Cents, the Makerspace serves as a laboratory for creativity and innovation and offers children from cycles 1 to 4 the opportunity to explore cutting-edge technologies such as 3D printers, laser cutters, robotics and programming.
According to the VdL, this modern environment allows pupils to carry out their own projects, from digital design to physical creation, to develop their sense of experimentation and to explore new digital skills, while encouraging collaborative work. Educational activities are supervised by school staff in collaboration with teachers specialising in digital skills. This supervision ensures quality support, enabling children to learn through trial and error, to tinker and to freely express their imagination in a secure and stimulating setting.
The Makerspace welcomes pupils from the City of Luxembourg’s primary schools from Monday to Friday, between 08:00 and 16:30. Only educational staff, IT coordinators, teachers specialising in digital skills or trained staff from the Education Department are permitted to book and use the Makerspace’s equipment. The Technolink Centre, a division of the City of Luxembourg’s Education Department, is responsible for technical management, bookings, equipment provision, support and necessary technical assistance.
The VdL has stated that the initiative is fully in line with the City of Luxembourg’s commitment to integrating digital learning into primary education. By introducing pupils to new technologies and digital fabrication tools, the VdL aims to spark children’s curiosity and creativity, while actively promoting the development of key skills related to the technologies of the future.
