On Monday 30 May 2016, Secretary of State for the Economy, Francine Closener, met with the mayors and aldermen of ten towns at the Ministry of the Economy in a bid to involve them in the implementation phase of the "Pakt PRO Commerce".
Jointly developed by the Ministry of the Economy, the Chamber of Commerce and the Luxembourg Trade Confederation (CLC), the pact includes fives fields of action, including the professionalisation of municipal policies on trade and economic development in order to support urban trade by making town centres more attractive and dynamic.
"I welcome the willingness expressed by all the municipal representatives present to meaningfully participate in the implementation of the Pakt PRO Commerce," commented Secretary of State for the Economy, Francine Closener. "As the Minister of the Economy, we will support these municipalities as well as local trade unions who play a crucial role in the revitalisation of urban centres in increasing the attractiveness of a city for visitors and tourists."
The towns of Differdange, Dudelange, Esch-sur-Alzette, Ettelbruck, Grevenmacher and Luxembourg, as well as the municipalities of Clervaux, Mertert, Pétange and Wiltz were represented at the meeting.
The "Pakt PRO Commerce" aims to support and develop the retail trade which represents 3,153 companies comprising 23,000 employees.
