As the Foire de Printemps got underway on Saturday 23 April 2016 at LuxExpo in the presence of TRH the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess, Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy, Étienne Schneider, gave a speech highlighting the current national economic situation.
2015 saw a GDP growth of almost 5%, the unemployment rate decreased to 6.5% and internal employment rose by nearly 3% year over year.
During his speech, the Deputy PM spoke on the European project to implement the required capacities in the field of high performance computing (HPC), pointing to the country's efficiency, secured data centres, excellent connectivity and infrastructure, with investments in HPC establishing the Grand Duchy's role in a European network for a super-computer.
Initiated within the framework of the 'Digital Lëtzebuerg' campaign, the project is being implemented in close cooperation with Spain, France and Italy and is part of the European Commission's measures to promote the digital transition of businesses in the EU.
