Created in the space of seven months under the direction of Jennifer Elisa Schecker and Milla Trausch, the play Home Sweet Home will be performed in Luxembourg on Tuesday 12 April 2016 at 20:00 in the Mierscher Kulturhaus in Mersch.

A multidisciplinary group of five artists will take to the stage to portray migrants in Europe through the themes of home, migration and exile. The play will highlight the modern issues facing the world today and will in particular seek to include targeted migrants, especially children and adolescents, in the production of this piece. Since the start of 2016 several workshops have been held at which the themes family, borders and escapes were discussed and the aim of the project is to find a language on stage though a mixture of violoncello,
dance, body expression and songs to speak to the audience. This is the first part of the “wideside project”, a comprehensive artistic and educational project centered around the themes homeland, escape and strangers.

The production has been created and interpreted by professional artists and about 60 young refugees (from Syria, Eritrea, Cameroon, Iraq, Guinea, Afghanistan, Austria and Luxembourg) who through the play get a chance to express their roots and history as well as their dreams.

The play experiments with forms of artistic storytelling combining music, movement and language, which are associative, concrete and direct.
A school performance will also be given on Wednesday 13 March 2016.

The musical direction is provided by the composer and conductor Camille Kerger, who also wrote the arrangements and compositions and a play script by Rafael Kohn.
