The Rotondes Cultural Centre in Luxembourg-Bonnevoie announced the fifteenth edition of the Hip Hop Marathon, with the 2026 performance premiering at Rotondes on Thursday 21 May 2026.
Around 180 young people from nine secondary schools have created a hip-hop performance on the theme “Out of the Box”. Following the premiere at Rotondes, a second performance reserved for school groups will take place on Friday 22 May, before additional performances at the Rockhal on Wednesday 3 June and CAPE on Friday 19 June.
According to the organisers, approximately 180 students from nine schools across Luxembourg have been introduced to different hip-hop disciplines since the beginning of the school year as part of the Hip Hop Marathon, a participatory project organised by Rotondes in co-production with CAPE and Rocklab.
Guided by a team of artists, participants took part in rap, dance, beatbox and graffiti workshops to create a performance reflecting their identities and opinions. The only requirement was the theme “Out of the Box”.
The organisers noted that the intentionally broad theme allowed participants to explore different directions, with groups addressing topics such as rebellion, difference and even zombies through their performances.
Performing on three major stages in Luxembourg will mark the culmination of several months of work. Organisers noted that, by encouraging participants to step outside their usual school environment during rehearsals and workshops, the project created opportunities for students and teachers to work together in a different context.
According to organisers, participatory projects such as the Hip Hop Marathon create spaces for exchange “that are not always available within traditional school programmes”. Participants highlighted “positive class dynamics”, “a stronger sense of community” and increased self-confidence.
The Hip Hop Marathon continues to receive long-term support from SCRIPT (Service de Coordination de la recherche et de l'Innovation pédagogiques et technologiques) and has also secured new support from the Œuvre Nationale for at least the next three years.
This support has enabled the participation of new artists, including rappers Claudio Borri (BC One), Dan Courte (LeDë Milestone) and Giovanni Dituri. Other contributors include Alain Welter and Olivier Potozec (Sader) for the graffiti workshops, while Thomas Faber (MAZ) and Nicole Bausch (Nikool) will host the shows.
