The Automobile Club Luxembourg (ACL) recently announced a collaboration with the Luxembourg Cycling Federation (FSCL).
The two partners have announced they want to bring the subject of cycling to the forefront, be it for leisure, sport or daily mobility. By combining their respective expertise, the ACL and FSCL have launched a concrete set of initiatives, targeting cyclists of all ages and levels. In addition to providing a safe training track for young racing cyclists, working groups to improve cycling infrastructure and awareness-raising campaigns on road safety issues, further initiatives are expected from the partnership in the future.
Managing Director at ACL, Miriam Eisenmenger, explained: “Cooperation is the be-all and end-all when it comes to advancing mobility issues in an intelligent and sustainable way. The bicycle is an important part of the transport mix. For it to be accepted by more and more people as a means of transport, it must be well and, above all, safely integrated into traffic. Together with the FSCL, we can develop and offer cyclists concrete solutions for safe cycling, promote cycling in principle and thus jointly contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility mix.”
President of the FSCL, Camille Dahm, added: “By partnering up with ACL, the FSCL is emphasising its commitment to cycling at all levels, be it in the area of soft mobility, recreational or competitive sport. We want all sports cyclists to have the best conditions for practising their sport and for all amateur cyclists to benefit from the latest knowledge about cycling, be it in terms of equipment, safety or nutrition. Together with the ACL, we are on the right track.”
The initiatives announced for cyclists include:
- making the track in Mondercange available to young racing cyclists so that they can train safely in a suitable environment;
- identifying strategic locations for bicycle repair stations through a thorough needs analysis;
- holding seminars and workshops where cyclists can gain deeper knowledge of traffic rules, develop safe reflexes and learn about bicycle maintenance;
- a political commitment to sustainable mobility through increased cooperation with institutions and decision makers to improve infrastructure and road safety, including for cyclists;
- organising events for all to inform and promote awareness in society about cycling in all its forms;
- continuous development of measures to improve infrastructure and services for cyclists.
The partnership comes into force with immediate effect.
On Saturday 8 February 2025, as part of a meeting of all of Luxembourg’s cycling clubs, more than 50 young racers were able to test the track in Mondercange. Riding alongside them was Fränk Schleck, national coordinator at FSCL and former professional road bicycle racer.
