Luxembourg's Ministry of the Economy and the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works have confirmed that the fifth edition of the "Vëlosummer" cycling initiative will take place across the Grand Duchy from Saturday 27 July to Sunday 25 August 2024.

The objective of the "Vëlosummer" initiative is, on the one hand, to (re)discover the most beautiful corners and landscapes of Luxembourg by bicycle and, on the other hand, to promote cycling as a means of leisure and daily transport. For this summer, thirteen marked cycle routes have been selected which go through 67 municipalities (including two in France), over a total length of more than 500 km. To give priority to cyclists, 82 km of roads will be temporarily closed to traffic.

Practical information on the thirteen routes (including levels of difficulty), as well as restaurants, hotels, bicycle stations and other points of interest for tourists along these routes, can be found on the website velosummer.lu and via the "VisitLuxembourg" application.

As part of the "Vëlosummer Challenge", anyone who completes all thirteen routes and checks in at the various points given on the "VisitLuxembourg" app will win a yellow jersey.

The organisers of "Vëlosummer" are Luxembourg's Ministry of the Economy and the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works, in close collaboration with the participating municipalities, the regional tourist offices (ORTs) and the National Roads Administration.

Luxembourg's national railway company, the CFL, confirmed that it is taking part in the "Vëlosummer" initiative again this year. For the occasion, the CFL is strengthening its train offer and the presence of CFL staff over several weekends. The railway company recalled that 9,400 of the 24,000 cyclists who took one of the Vëlosummer routes in 2023 used CFL trains and services. Since 2023, the CFL has been deploying a cycling-specific strategy aimed at improving its services and infrastructure for cycling customers. The railway company notable took over responsibility of the national network of 73 secure bicycle parking hubs ("bikebox") in December that same year.

As part of "Wander-Summer 2024", the CFL is also offering various organised hikes from station to station, accompanied by a guide. The routes are aimed at both amateur and more experienced hikers.
