On Friday 29 January 2021, Luxembourg's Minister of Mobility and Public Works, François Bausch, approved the detailed preliminary draft of the PC21 national cycle path between Clervaux and Troisvierges.

The implementation of this cycle path on a specific site away from motorised traffic is expected to allow bicycle tourists to get from Clervaux to the Vennbahn. The start of work for the first batch, a section along the railway line between Maulusmühle and Clervaux, is scheduled for spring 2022. Like similar projects (e.g. Kylltal-Radweg), cyclists will be separated from the railway line by a safety distance and a guardrail. Any type of game must be able to pass.

The Clervaux-Troisvierges cycling route project has been divided into lots in order to avoid that possible difficulties on a single section delay the entire project. Studies concerning the two lots in the “North” section, namely Maulusmühle - South portal of the CFL tunnel “Pafemillen”, as well as the bypassing of this same tunnel to lead to the Abbey of Cinqfontaines, are progressing simultaneously. The implementation of these two sections will allow bicycle tourists to avoid not only the significant slopes of the local roads between Cinqfontaines and Sassel, but also the mixed traffic between Sassel and Maulusmühle. Depending on the progress of the various studies, land acquisitions and environmental authorisations, the various lots will be ideally under construction simultaneously.

The planning and construction of this cycling route, which will occasionally serve as a maintenance track, are being carried out in close collaboration with Luxembourg's railways, the CFL.
