On Sunday 11 October 2026, Vianden hosted its traditional nut market (Veiner Nëssmoort), attracting around 2,000 visitors to the small town.
Held each year on the second Sunday of October, the event draws crowds eager to buy walnuts and other nut-themed products, as well as to enjoy live music, food and drinks - including the ever-popular "Nëssdrepp", "Nëssliqueur" and "Nësscrème" alcoholic beverages.
On what was a cold, autumnal Sunday morning, the market was officially opened in the presence of the Mayor of Vianden, François Weyrich, and the town's aldermen.
Speaking to Chronicle.lu, Mayor François Weyrich offered “a big thank you” to the companies and local associations who “make the nut market what it is” and welcomed the mayors visiting the festival from neighbouring communes.
The festivities continued throughout the day, with stands spread out across the cobbled streets of Vianden.
Dedicated shuttle buses connected the designated car parks with the town centre, enabling access to all areas of the festival.
Held every year on the second Sunday in October, the nut market attracts thousands of visitors. According to the Veiner Nëssmoort association, Vianden was once considered Luxembourg's "secret nut capital": in 1902, about 20% of all nuts in the country came from Vianden.
The first nut market took place in the town in 1935 to sell excess nuts. Since then, the market has grown into a well-known folk festival.
