On Tuesday 13 January 2026, Luxembourg's Minister for Culture, Eric Thill, addressed representatives of Luxembourg's institutional cultural sector during the traditional New Year's reception held at at Casino Luxembourg – Forum for Contemporary Art.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Minister Thill thanked all the guests for their contributions to the cultural success of 2025. He noted that 2025 was marked at the ministry by the celebration and promotion of the excellence of Luxembourg's creative sector. "Whether through a Palme d'Or at Cannes or the Lëtzebuerger Bünepräisser awards, Luxembourg's cultural sector has once again demonstrated its creativity and renown to national and international audiences," the ministry reported.
Minister Thill also expressed his satisfaction with the progress made in cultural policy. Alongside increased funding for the subsidised sector in 2026, significant legislative initiatives were implemented or launched in 2025, such as laws on the governance and financing of the audiovisual sector, as well as legislation concerning the cultural observatory and public libraries, he stated.
Looking to the future, Minister Thill said: "2026 is shaping up to be a pivotal year for cultural policy. The national action plan on access to culture, announced last June at the 2025 'Assises Culturelles' (Cultural Conference), is now in its final stages. Following various studies, extensive public consultation and countless multilateral exchanges, I am delighted to be able to present the action plan to you in spring 2026. This action plan is intended to send a strong signal and will lay the groundwork for the future of cultural policy in Luxembourg."
Minister Thill concluded by inviting the entire cultural sector to work together to meet the challenges ahead. He reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to maintaining close dialogue with cultural stakeholders and strengthening cooperation within the sector. The minister also stated his full commitment to meeting with cultural professionals in various organisations and institutions throughout the year to exchange ideas and to continue, with his teams, the work being carried out to foster a dynamic, accessible and future-oriented cultural sector.
