On Wednesday 7 June 2023, the Casino 2000 in Mondorf-les-Bains celebrated its 40th anniversary with a party for 400 invited guests, including Luxembourg's Minister for Culture, Sam Tanson, the Minister for Tourism and SMEs, Lex Delles, and the Minister of Sport and Minister of Labour, Employment and the Social and Solidarity Economy, George Engel, as well as others including local favourite, former professional cyclist and winner of the 2010 Tour de France, Andy Schleck.
The event took place in the venue's most spacious facility, the Chapito which was equipped with stages at both end (one for the speeches, performances and video projections, etc., and the other for a live three-piece band starting off playing easy-listening music and gradually increased in tempo as the evening wore on) and bars at both sides.
Guido Berghmans, General Director, presented a short history of Casino 2000 since its birth in 1983; this was followed by short on-stage interviews (in Luxembourgish) with Ministers Tanson and Delles, as well as Steve Reckel, Mayor of Mondorf-les-Bains, who also participated in the ceremonial cutting of the cake.
The stage was in action throughout the evening with a non-stop cabaret of dance, percussion and pyrotechnics performances, etc., entertaining those present.
Food was then served from (literally) the four corners of the Chapito, with copious volumes of mini portions, "tasters", from foie gras, salmon, scallops and prawns to Prime Irish beef, beef burgers and veggie burgers with sweet potato fries, as well as birthday cake, ice cream and fresh fruit dishes.
Casino 2000 offers gaming including slot machines and roulette wheels, and organising and hosting exhibitions and events, concerts and shows, as well as hotel accommodation and restaurants (Les Roses and the Purple Lounge). The facilities were in full operation throughout the evening, with the party continuing on the outside terrace after the food had concluded.
