The Indian Association Luxembourg (IAL) recently celebrated India’s 79th Independence Day with the IAL Trophy 2025 – a six-a-side social cricket tournament.

The tournament, which took place on Friday 15 August 2025 at the Pierre Werner Cricket Ground in Walferdange, featured four teams: Revolutionary Rangers (captained by Anoop Orsu); Liberty Legends (captained by Rakshit Pradhan); Unity Uplifters (captained by Utsav Burman) and Triumph Troopers (captained by Sambhav Puri).

Across ten matches, the gathered cricket enthusiasts enjoyed competitive yet friendly play, with the grand finale seeing the Revolutionary Rangers defeat Liberty Legends by five wickets to lift the trophy.

In the play-off for third place, Unity Uplifters overcame Triumph Troopers by seventeen runs.

At the tournament, Ms. Debashree Das Gupta, a trained Hindustani classical vocalist and a music therapist from India, sang the Indian National Anthem. Over the past eight years, she has been actively involved in national and international projects that integrate music into healthcare, education and community development. Her work was recently selected for presentation at the prestigious Dalcroze Studies Conference at the University of Luxembourg, where she was awarded grants by the Luxembourg National Research Fund and SEMPRE, London.

The organisers handed out a selection of individual honours to various players for their performances during the tournament. These awards were presented by Selvaraj Alagumalai, Honorary Consul General of India (HCGI), Arvind Pandey of the Luxembourg Cricket Federation (LCF), Phil Burleigh of the Optimists Cricket Club (OCC) and Sahil Goel, President of the Indian Association Luxembourg.

Individual honours:

• MVP - Rakshit Pradhan (all-round performance)

• Best Batsman - Thejesh Reddy (106 runs, five innings)

• Best Bowler - Utsav Burman (three wickets, five innings)

• Best Fielder - Shashank Singh (two catches, two run-outs)

Each team was also presented with a celebratory bottle of wine and all volunteers were recognised with food & drink vouchers from IAL.

To complement the sporting event, a varied array of Indian food and drinks were on offer, provided by the Kohinoor Restaurant.

The IAL said: “The IAL Trophy 2025 was more than a cricket competition – it was a celebration of unity, sportsmanship and Indian culture in Luxembourg.”
