The next European Association for Data Science (EuADS) symposium, held around the topic of "Data Science and the Human Factor", will be taking place on Tuesday 10 September 2019 at the Chambre de Commerce in Luxembourg-Kirchberg, from 12:30.

The symposium forms part of the EuADS Summer School on "Explainable Data Science", taking place from 10 to 13 September. The Summer School, organised by the Luxembourg-based EuADS, is primarily aimed at advanced PhD students, postdoctoral and early-career researchers with an interest and basic expertise in data science, machine learning and/or statistics.

The opening symposium on "Data Science and the Human Factor" will see Christopher Bishop, a Microsoft Technical Fellow and Director of the Microsoft Research Lab in Cambridge (UK), give a public lecture on the topic of "Model-Based Machine Learning".

At Microsoft Research, Christopher Bishop oversees a world-leading portfolio of industrial research and development, with a strong focus on machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI), creating breakthrough technologies in cloud infrastructure, security, workplace productivity, gaming, computational biology and healthcare. Christopher is also Professor of Computer Science at the University of Edinburgh and a Fellow of Darwin College, Cambridge. In 2004, he was elected Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and in 2007 he was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, before being elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 2017. He is also the author of two machine learning text books: "Neural Networks for Pattern Recognition" (1995) and "Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning" (2006).

The symposium is free, but registration is required.
