On Thursday 10 March at 18:00 Need for Seed will be hosting an information meeting at CITIM (55 avenue de la Liberté, L-1931 Luxembourg).
The event will take the form of a free public information session on the problems of the seed issue, primarily regarding food, with a presentation by Jean Feyder, member of the ASTM Board of Directors, on seed sovereignty and food security, followed by Frank Adams, founding member of the Luxembourg SEED network, and expert on cultivated biodiversity.
The presentations will be followed by a discussion with two other players in cultivated biodiversity in Luxembourg, Steve Schwartz of Kraizschouschteschgaart and Klouschtergaart, Georges Moes of Natur & ëmwelt, and Estrella Catarata, director of the Philippine Network of Food Security Programmes (PNFSP), one of ASTM partners in the Philippines, which will inform the attending on the situation of small Filipino farmers and their efforts in favour of seed sovereignty in their country.
Traditional seeds are the basis of the struggle for food sovereignty in the North and South, but today the standardisation of seeds endangers the millennium heritage.
With "Need for Seed", the CITIM, in collaboration with three local players - the network SEED Luxembourg, the private initiative Kraizschouschteschgaart, and Natur & ëmwelt - wants to bring the greatest possible biodiversity into our gardens and help consumers to reclaim their self-sufficiency in food production.
