Luxembourg Prime Minister, Minister for Communications and Media, Xavier Bettel, will deliver the opening speech at the Fibre to the Home (FTTH) Council Europe 2016 Conference in Luxembourg City, which over 3,000 people are expected to attend in February of next year.

Prime Minister Bettel has offered his patronage to the Conference, taking place from 16 to 18 February 2016, which will assemble decision makers from the European Commission, national governments and municipalities as well as management-level attendees from telecom operators, financial institutions, service and application providers, analysts and industry experts, academia and media.

The FTTH Conference takes place annually as part of an industry organisation which since 2004 has aimed to accelerate the availability of fibre-based, ultra-high-speed access networks to benfit consumers and businesses alike.

This year, technology and telecommunications experts will gather in Luxembourg's capital to attend workshops, conference sessions, a leading edge exhibition and hands-on demos of FTHH-enable services.

"High-speed connectivitiy is the foundation of the digital society," said the Prime Minister and Minister for Communications and Media of his patronage of the 2016 FTTH Conference. "Luxembourg is one of the best connected countries in the world. I look forward to welcoming the world's most pre-eminent experts and decision makers in this field at the FTTH Conference 2016".

"The opening speech of Prime Minister Xavier Bettel will be a key contribution to the FTTH Conference as the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has already a well-established ICT development strategy, with a first broadband plan already launched in 2004," continued Edgar Aker, President of FTTH Council Europe. "The government's 'Ultra-Fast Broadband for All' initiative has successfully placed the Grand Duchy amongst the most advanced European countries in broadband, and points to optic fibre as a key solution in the development of communications infrastructures."

He concluded: "It is a concrete example of public support for FTTH as a long-term solution to reach the European Digital Agenda targets and beyond. We hope the holding our FTTH Conference in this country will have a repercussion throughout Europe".
