On Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 March 2025, the 42nd edition of Luxembourg’s Festival of Migration, Cultures & Citizenship (Festival des Migrations, des Cultures et de la Citoyenneté) took place at Luxexpo the Box in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.

Luxembourg’s Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa attended the official opening on Saturday afternoon. Among the speakers at the opening ceremony were Luxembourg’s Prime Minister, Luc Frieden, Minister for Family Affairs, Solidarity, Living Together and Reception of Refugees, Max Hahn, Minister for Culture, Eric Thill, President of the Chamber of Deputies (parliament), Claude Wiseler, and Alderwoman of the City of Luxembourg, Corinne Cahen.

Crowds filled the halls of Luxexpo, which was transformed into a global village, on both days of the festival, organised by CLAE (Comité de Liaison des Associations d'Étrangers) an organisation that helps new arrivals integrate in Luxembourg.

Over 400 stands were present at the event, including various cultural associations, NGOs, foundations, non-profit organisations (Asbls) and institutions, highlighting the many nationalities, diversity and cultural richness of the Grand Duchy. These included stands representing African, Cape Verdean, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Italian and many other communities.

Entertainment included an array of multicultural performances, music and dance on the main stage, lasting long into the night, throughout the two days of the festival. Book lovers were spoiled for choice at the Book and Culture (Salon du Livre et des Cultures) section, where books for young and old, in multiple languages, were available at approximately 150 stands. Visitors also had a chance to meet with authors and attend readings.

Approximately 70 exhibitions of art, sculpture, photography and more, from artists based both in Luxembourg and beyond, were on display at the ArtsManif section of the event. Short films and documentaries were screened in a bus in Hall Two of Luxexpo as well as in Hall One.

The Festival Village hosted events, conferences, presentations, talks, workshops and roundtable discussions on a variety of topics including human rights, social justice and other issues of interest to the public. Attendees were invited to participate and contribute to the conferences and roundtable discussions.

The numerous stands gave visitors the opportunity to interact and learn more about different communities and organisations in Luxembourg, sample the vast array of international cuisines available and admire handcrafted goods from all over the world.

The Festival of Migration, Cultures & Citizenship is a muti-cultural festival that has firmly established itself in Luxembourg’s calendar, creating an opportunity for all citizens to learn more about the many diverse communities that make up the Grand Duchy.
