On Thursday 24 September 2015, the Fondation Félix Chomé awarded scholarships to 83 underprivileged students for the academic year 2015-2016 at its parent association in Eich.

The Fondation Félix Chomé was established in 1972 and for the past decade has awarded scholarships to students with a high school diploma, on the sidelines of its primary purpose to provide accommodation for independent seniors with modest incomes. Selected students may benefit from these grants up until and including a Master's degree.

The Foundation has increased its overall budget for these subsidies tenfold since first financially supporting nine students in 2004, and the committee responsible for allocating scholarships reported 100 applications in 2015.

Applications are submitted in March and evaluated by an independent committee consisting mainly of university and high school teachers in Luxembourg. The committee disregards students' nationalities, instead taking into consideration the results obtained during the last academic year as well as the income of the househld in which the individual lives.

The Fondation operates under the status of 'supervised accommodation for the elderly', certified by the Ministry of Family. A welcome event held in conjunction with the grant allocation enable the scholarship recipients to familiarise themselves with the Fondation's activities in the presence of the committee and officials.
