On Thursday 20 November 2025, Amnesty International Luxembourg announced the launch of this year's "Write for Rights" campaign.

Known as the world’s largest human rights initiative, the campaign advocates on behalf of around ten individuals or groups (eight for this year) whose fundamental rights are being violated.

According to Amnesty International, this year’s edition focuses on individuals affected in several countries worldwide, including an indigenous reindeer herder fighting to protect her community’s land in Norway, a photojournalist imprisoned for documenting a cyclone in Myanmar and a young boy who died after falling into the pit latrines at his daycare in South Africa.

The organisation said it aims to promote justice and dignity. Backed by ten million sympathisers worldwide, it provides several ways to take action: signing online petitions; writing letters of support to the individuals concerned or their relatives or sending letters directly to the authorities.

According to Amnesty International, support letters are a powerful way to give hope to people in difficult situations. Furthermore, large numbers of letters received serve as an unequivocal reminder to authorities and others that “the world is watching”.

Online petitions are available on the Amnesty Luxembourg website and a letter-writing kit can be requested free of charge or downloaded online.
