On Saturday 7 June 2025, PwC Luxembourg hosted the PwC Cup of Nations rugby tournament, organised by PoP (People of PwC) Rugby Luxembourg and co-hosted by Walferdange Rugby Club.
The tournament, supported by the municipality of Walferdange, brought together around 130 players from teams representing England, Ireland, Scotland, the Channel Islands and Luxembourg. It featured full-contact rugby for men and touch rugby for women.
Among the three women's teams, which each played one another twice, Ireland emerged as the strongest. Despite losing their opening match 1-2 to Luxembourg, they went on to outperform their opponents and will take the trophy home.
In the men’s competition, the decisive match also involved Ireland, who edged out England with a 7-5 victory. Both teams scored a try, but it was Ireland who successfully converted theirs, securing the win.
“That was by far the best game of the day,” said Antoine Bardou, PwC Cup of Nations co-organiser and senior associate at PwC Luxembourg, in an interview with Chronicle.lu, referring to the men’s match.
According to PwC Luxembourg, this year’s event supported the charity initiative “Back to Sport,” an association that brings together adults and children with physical disabilities who take part in sporting events (individually or as a team) with the aim of pushing their limits and achieving personal goals.
The co-organiser, Antoine Bardou, emphasised the charitable aspect of the tournament: “We play rugby, we have fun together, but we always, always, always support local charity.” He noted that a donation of nearly €2,000 was made to “Back to Sport”, a Luxembourg-based organisation supporting people with disabilities who wish to engage in sports: “Not necessarily hyper-competitive sports, but just be able to go and bike, go and swim and do stuff like that.”
The next edition of the PwC Cup of Nations rugby tournament is set to take place in the Channel Islands in 2026, with the host island - Jersey or Guernsey - to be confirmed at a later date.
