On Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 March 2025, the 20th edition of Relais pour la Vie (Relay for Life), a fundraising event organised by Fondation Cancer, took place at the Coque sports centre in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.

Team members at the Coque (24 to 48 members per team) took turns running or walking over a 24-hour period, from 19:00 on Saturday until 19:00 on Sunday.

As is tradition, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg attended the opening of the Relais pour la Vie on Saturday. Luxembourg’s Minister of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture, Martine Hansen, was also present, while her colleague Georges Mischo, Luxembourg’s Minister for Sport and Minister for Labour, launched the first relay alongside participants from ADEM and the Ministry of Labour.

According to Fondation Cancer, more than 15,000 participants took part in the 2025 Relais pour la Vie, with a total of 214 virtual teams and 323 in-person teams.

Antonio Madeira, a participant in the Relais pour la Vie who has a family member battling cancer, shared with Chronicle.lu his motivation for taking part in the event: “I’m here for the second time and my wife for the third. We participate because our family member has cancer and we want to support Relais pour la Vie because they have helped our family. We are here to stand with them and show that we are all in this together. We are here, fighting alongside them.”

This year’s event saw the teams raise a total of more than €524,000, according to the organisers on the official website.
