As the year-end approaches, the Luxembourg Red Cross has launched a new campaign to raise awareness of the importance of financial donations.

The Luxembourg Red Cross recalled the importance of financial donations in enabling it to respond most effectively and flexibly to the needs of its beneficiaries. "What you give is not always what they need," explains the flagship video of the campaign launched last week (the video is available, in French, here).

The Luxembourg Red Cross noted that during serious natural disasters, humanitarian emergencies, armed conflicts or as winter approaches, people often quickly try to support those in need. In this context, rather than making a financial donation, some people want to donate food products, blankets and other items. However, these material gifts are not always exactly what is needed. For example, someone who does not have cooking utensils does not really need pasta. And it can be expensive to transport hundreds of blankets instead of supporting the local economy by purchasing these locally.

"Of course, we are happy to receive second-hand clothes and toys because we have volunteers who sort them and make them available to people in need in Luxembourg," noted Luc Scheer, who is responsible for fundraising and a member of the Luxembourg Red Cross Management Committee. "But financial donations allow us to be very effective and responsive to the varied needs of our beneficiaries."

To offer the most vulnerable what they need most, the Luxembourg Red Cross reiterated that untargeted financial donations remain the most effective option. Anyone wishing to make such a donation can do so via bank transfer to the Luxembourg Red Cross' account: CCPL LU52 1111 0000 1111 0000 or online at https://donate.croix-rouge.lu/ce-dont-ils-ont-besoin/~mon-don?_cv=1.
