Lycée de Garçons Esch-sur-Alzette (LGE) recently donated €2,000 to Stëmm vun der Strooss, a local non-profit organisation which supports homeless people and vulnerable members of Luxembourg society.

LGE presented a cheque worth €2,000 to Alexandra Oxacelay, Director of Stëmm vun der Strooss, during an official donation presentation on Monday 28 March 2022.

LGE raised this money through its traditional Christmas market, which took place on 14 December 2021. The school had also provided Stëmm vun der Strooss with an information stand at the market so that the many visitors could be informed about the charitable aspect of this festive evening.

In the presence of Pascal Bermes and Rita Bohler, Director and Deputy Director of LGE, and Claudine Bley, coordinator of the LGE Christmas market, Alexandra Oxacelay accepted this donation and presented the activities of the non-profit as well as the Caddy 2 project in Sanem, in which the donated money will be invested.

For this project in the industrial area Um Woeller, 40 additional people will be employed in vocational rehabilitation. In addition, the non-profit will aim to increase the amount of food currently collected, processed and redistributed under strict food safety control from 100 to 500 tonnes through its partnership with the Auchan hypermarket.

The Caddy 2 project will be operational from autumn this year and Alexandra Oxacelay invited the LGE school management to attend the official inauguration on 23 September 2022. At the end of her speech, she recalled: "Thanks to actions like yours, we are able to fulfil our mission, which is, among other things, to provide vocational rehabilitation to people who are very far from the labour market due to their state of health, age or lack of qualifications. Our project feeds three birds with one scone, as it simultaneously contributes to the fight against food waste and poverty".
